About RAWCS Northern Region

Rotary Australia World Community Service has no limit with regard to the geographical area in which Rotarians choose to work. However because RAWCS Northern Region holds within it two Districts incorporating nations other than Australia, many Northern Region projects are designed to help advance these Nations.

District 9550 has a particular affinity with Timor Leste. Projects to aid infrastructure particularly in water supplies and maternal and child health care are much needed.

District 9600 has both Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the Solomon Islands within their District, and as such, RAWCS has a very strong presence in these Nations.

Donations in Kind also ship many containers of much needed goods primarily to these two destinations. Rotarians against Malaria (RAM), through their Bed Net and Adopt a Village programs have made huge gains in controlling deaths from Malaria.

For more information on Northern Region projects or to find out details of meeting times and locations, please contact the Northern Region Chairman.

Donations in Kind (DIK)

Northern Region clubs have been strong contributors to DIK.

Their  temporary warehouse in Durack, Brisbane acts as  a clearing house for serviceable equipment which is no longer required.  Typically the equipment that is most needed are items for schools and hospitals/medical centres

The Rotary Club of Mount Isa South West have recently contibuted a large quantity of school desks to DIK while also providing funding for their freight. Contributions like these will  provide students in needy countries with educational opportunities they would otherwise not have.

Rotary Project Volunteers

Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM)

RAM projects like Adopt a Village are providing millions of people worldwide with basic protection against malaria and other mosquito and waterborne infectious diseases. Many clubs in the Northern Region have adopted villages, The Rotary Club of Cairns a recent example.

Safe Water Save Lives (SWSL)

Northern Region Districts and Clubs have done much to provide clean water to Papua New Guinea.

In recent times the Rotary Club of Townsville Sunrise ventured to Papua New Guinea to work on a major clean water provision project.

The Rotary Club of Cairns Earlville also sponsors a Water Project in Timor Leste which has provided clean drinking water to this young country.
